Man caves: they may not be to everyone’s taste but, when done right, can look incredible AND increase the value of your property. To have a place to hide in can be a welcome escape from a hectic life. If you follow our top tips, you’ll be able to begin working on your very own man cave immediately, let’s get started!
Location, location, location…
Before we begin, it’s important to note that you don’t necessarily have to revamp a room in your home. One way of deciding on the location is to look at the available space in and around your property. For example, if you have an unused room in your house then go ahead and convert it! Perhaps you have empty attic or basement space, or—if you’re feeling really adventurous—you could build your man cave outdoors to add to the escapism vibe that a man cave provides.
If you opt for the outdoor option, you hopefully have some sort of structure available. A shed is a great option, especially if you already have electricity running through. Though, don’t worry if you don’t, an electrician will be able to hook your shed up in no time. A garage, if available, is another option. If you don’t use your garage for vehicle storage, then it can most likely be converted into the perfect man cave; they’re certainly roomier than a shed and are a more secure alternative to the shed. If neither of these options are available, the consider building a small outbuilding house your man cave.
Décor
When deciding what to include in your man cave, first consider the space. What vibe are you going for? Is it a social space for you to enjoy with friends? If so, opt for lighter colours, such as whites and creams. Not only do these tones set the mood but they also help create the illusion of a wider space. If you’re opting for a personal space type of room, consider using colours with a lot of depth, such as navy blues and crimson reds. Next, we need to consider the amount of space available in your man cave. If you’re working with a smaller room, you may have to compromise on what goes inside your man cave.
So, what should be included? First off: a TV. If you’re opting for a wall-mounted TV to save space, then you won’t need a TV stand. If you prefer to have your TV on a stand then consider the Calligaris Factory TV unit. Not only does it provide plenty of internal storage but also has a multitude of finish options. We recommend the matte red frame for it’s striking looks and combining it with a natural wood finish.
If your mancave is going to host social gatherings, then you should also look for a sofa. If space is an issue, then scrap the armchair and just go for a sofa. We recommend the Furninova Chantal sofa as it is available in 1, 2, 2.5, and 3-seater model. It’s also super comfortable due to the soft foam filling! A sofa bed should also be considered if you’re planning to pull an all-nighter in the man cave.
Space permitting, you may want to include some non-tv related activities. Teckell produce the highest quality table top games available. The Teckell Cristallino football table is an incredibly well-designed football table that can be enjoyed by a large group of friends. It’s perfect for social gatherings. If you prefer something a little less intense, Teckell also produced the T1 pool table. After an intense match of tabletop football, why not chill out in your man cave bar? If you’ve got the space for it, go for it! We have a multitude of bar stools available at Harrogate Interiors.
